Beyond The Rag Doll  -
“The Art Doll”

This lecture/slide show traces a 29 year journey of cloth dollmaking by textile artist Virginia Robertson. “The figure in cloth expresses some aspect of the human condition.” This quote from an art gallery opening best describes Virginia’s work.

The presentation is both entertaining and motivating for artists and crafters who love to work in cloth. Right now there are a lot of quilters who are crossing over to the three dimensional world of cloth doll making. Virginia’s background includes a career in quilt and surface design, as well as the soft sculpture that included cloth dolls.

East Lansing Friday, August 1, 6:30 - 8:30pm
Fee: $20 (free if you are taking the Jester Doll class)

The 12” Jester Doll

This is Virginia’s most popular doll class. Learn how to draw & sculpt the face, turn tiny fingers and stuff a doll without lumps. The doll has steel shot in the body that makes it sit up straight. The legs are filled with glass beads that give even more weight and balance. The hands are filled with plastic sand. This doll is very special and you will enjoy creating it during class.

The pattern comes in a $45 kit with all four stuffings, body fabric, wires, threads, needles and eye beads. All you need are fat quarters for the clothing, hair, turning tools and face painting supplies.
